What does authentic leadership look like to you?

I’ll tell you what it looks like to me…

‘Me’ being 22 year old Gen Z with a commitment to making a positive impact (for context).

In a word, I think authentic leadership is human.

It’s somebody who cares, and worries… like the rest of us.

Somebody who is self-aware and transparent.

Somebody who is honest about their strengths, weaknesses, and emotions.

Somebody who keeps us firmly in the direction of our north star… protecting our vision and our purpose.

Why does it matter how I see good leadership?

Because it’s people like me who will be driving your businesses, as employees, consumers, and even executives in a few years.

Millennials will soon make up 50 percent of the workforce, and Gen Z aren’t far behind.

So, aligning your leadership values to our values matters…

It’s acting in the interests of climate and social justice.

It’s equity in the workplace, uplifting those who are underserved by society.

It’s creating an open culture around mental health.

It’s fair and equal pay for ALL.

Why should being an authentic leader matter to you?

People are attracted to leaders they can relate to.

It shouldn’t be an acting job… employees, clients, and communities want to see the real you.

People can’t trust a leader, or their business, if they can’t know the real you, or share your values and purpose.

Without trust your team and customers won’t stick around.

The truth is, trust matters.

People, especially young people, want to work for, buy from, and invest in businesses they can trust.

People can trust you and your business when they see can your actions aligned to your values and purpose.
